A recent study has shown that the levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA), a marker of prostate cancer, lower in men who take statin drugs. This may lower the risk of advanced prostate cancer in men, reports the study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, but it is not clear how statins may be able to fight cancer.
High levels of PSA are associated with prostate cancer and other benign conditions of the prostate. Generally men who have high levels of this antigen are recommended to have a biopsy of the prostate. In the present study, the researchers tried to trace the changes in the levels of PSA with statins in about 1,214 men who took the drug. Researcher Robert J. Hamilton, MD, MPH, reported that after starting the use of statin, the level of PSA reduced by 1.4% and this reduction in the level of antigen was proportional to the reduction in the levels of cholesterol with statins.
Although the average reduction of PSA was less, men who started with high levels of PSA, about 2.5 ng/mL or more, along with a high decrease in the reduction of cholesterol had a greater decrease in the levels of PSA (17.4%).

Five Business Tips From a Buddhist Billionaire
Kazuo Inamori, the Japanese entrepreneur who founded two multi-billion dollar companies and rescued another, is known for his management philosophy. Here are five of his ideas.
1. Question your motive
Inamori is a Buddhist, and zen — the Japanese word for "good" — is at the heart of his thinking. Zen means being universally virtuous in anybody’s eyes, he writes in his book “A Passion for Success.” Serving one’s own interests in business is never enough: the motive has to be good for others as well.

10 Dos and Don'ts When Launching a Business
If you're ready to get your business off the ground but aren't quite sure where to start, here are five do's and five don'ts, based on interviews with dozens of successful side business owners.
Do's:
1. Make sure you're ready.
Do you worry about losing your job? Do you wish you could earn more money? Is your full-time job and personal life stable enough that you can dedicate at least one to two hours a week to a new pursuit? If you answered "yes" to those questions, then it's time to consider launching your own venture.
2. Choose the right business for you.
Side businesses generally fall into six primary categories: creating products, providing services, running a business, helping others, doing physical work and performing. Take time to do a self-assessment of your own talents, interests and skills to see what might work best for you, and where you're most likely to find customers.

10 Critical SEO Tips and Tricks for Small Businesses
For starters, there are NO tricks with SEO. I used that in my title purely to capture your attention. SEO is a lot like weight loss, we are always looking for tricks, but there is only one true way, healthy eating and exercise. Same goes with SEO, there is only high quality content and not spamming. Ok, now that I got that off my chest and before we get to the infographic, let me explain exactly how SEO is broken down. SEO has two main categories, onsite and offsite. In the infographic below, we will thoroughly examine onsite SEO, but before we get there, it is crucial to understand the difference of each. For starters, google has put a larger emphasis on on-page SEO. Hence why I have been talking more about it on my blog. Any who, lets break down the difference...

Ten Tips for New Small Businesses - nolo.com
by: Beth Laurence, J.D.
1. Save up as much money as possible before starting.
All too often, people go into business without any savings, exclusively using loan money from friends, banks, or the SBA. They except to be able to start paying the loans back right away with their profits. What these business owners don't realize is that it can take months or years to make a profit. And once a lender discovers a business isn't as profitable as expected, the lender is likely to call in the loan or refuse to renew it for another year. Often new business owners then have to take out home equity loans or use credit cards to pay off their loans (which puts their home and credit rating at risk). For more information, see Nolo's Business Financing FAQ.
A better plan is to save up as much of the needed investment money as possible, including your living expenses for the first year, or even two. Odds are that your business won't be profitable for one to two years. Even if you get plenty of business coming your way -- and your customers pay you on time, which isn't always a sure thing -- you'll want to be able to invest most of that money back in the business for space, equipment, advertising, and insurance needs.

The Importance of Diversity in Leadership and Life with Dr. Neelum Aggarwal
Every voice needs an outlet to be heard and when the information you are sharing is important to the success of your peers and mentees, having an outlet becomes even more critical. Often in the workplace- whether it is a hospital, doctor’s office or business, women and minorities lack the confidence to fill leadership positions- and that confidence needs to be built.
Integrating diversity and inclusion into not only your work, but also your personal life can be a challenge. So to help our listeners overcome this challenge, our host Anthony Figliola sits down with Dr. Neelum Aggarwal, the Chief Diversity Officer at the American Medical Women's Association to discuss why there is a lack of participation on the part of women and minorities in leadership, how organizations can increase participation as well as how to gain access to the tools needed to improve their roles at all levels of their careers.

7 Tips for Surviving The Leap From Employee to Entrepreneur
by Nellie Akalp
Becoming a successful entrepreneur takes more than a great idea and important connections (although both do help). Making the shift from the steady life of a full-time employee to the unpredictable world of entrepreneurship requires a shift in mindset that many overlook. In fact, some of the work habits you so carefully honed as a good employee don’t necessarily translate well into the world of an entrepreneur.
According to the Small Business Administration, only half of new businesses will survive to see their fifth year. Making that mental switch from employee to entrepreneur can help you avoid being one of those businesses that doesn’t make it. Here are seven tips for thriving while adjusting to life as an entrepreneur:
1. Learn to say no
As an employee in a big company, you probably got used to saying “yes” to any and all requests that came your way. After all, “yes” meant you were reliable and a team player and that can-do attitude probably earned great reviews from your manager. However, this approach won’t get you far as an entrepreneur. For starters, with the time-pressed entrepreneurial schedule, agreeing to and doing everything just isn’t possible. But more importantly, as an entrepreneur, you need to set the agenda, not just follow everyone else’s wishes. Get used to saying “no” to everything but your main priorities.

Online Patient Reviews: 6 Strategies For Doctors - informationweek.com
Like other public-facing businesses, doctors will have to address angry comments, fake reviews, and other downsides of the digital age. Unlike many other industries, however, healthcare providers are constrained by HIPAA regulations. Fortunately, they do have some options available that allow them to leverage or control online reviews.
1. Ask for raves. When one patient writes a negative review, some offices ask favorite patients to combat that post with their own thoughts on the doctor's services, waiting room times, and courtesy. Because scores typically are based on averages, satisfied patients' reviews will balance out the lone malcontent.
2. Contact the complainer. If a patient posted negative feedback after a visit, contact him to see if the office can do anything to improve the situation. Many review sites allow a service provider to privately message a reviewer without revealing the identity of the person who complained. If the person doesn't respond or is unreachable, accept fault, apologize, or explain. An unusually long wait could have been because the doctor was called to the emergency room for a critical patient or for an early delivery, for example.

13 Best Practices for Building Solid Small Business Operations
Running and scaling a business will always be challenging. But having a solid foundation of smoothly operating practices underlying your company can make it much easier.
To find out how successful entrepreneurs were building their operations, we asked 13 founders from Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) the following question:
“As a business owner, what do you feel is most important when it comes to building solid small business operations?”
Here’s what YEC community members had to say:
1. Setting Team Expectations
“Setting proper team expectations and accountability has become one of the most impactful things to my business. Twice a month we bring all managers and executives together for a big meeting to discuss each department and their accomplishments and challenges. It is also a time for other departments to give feedback to management. At the end of these meetings, everyone leaves with follow-up tasks.” ~ David Schwartz, EMMDeavor (DBA Qruber) & Wireless Watchdogs
2. Managing Without Ego
“Many CEOs, COOs and executive level staff have various methods that they swear are the best ways of doing things. But what many people don’t take into account is that there are other variables at work, such as the dynamics of the company and the people within it. Solid operations come from management who can admit when their systems are failing and are willing to change to improve.” ~ Travis Steffen, Cyber Superpowers

Richard Branson's Top 10 Tips for Succeeding at Business
I’m often asked how I got to where I am, and how the Virgin brand achieved all that it has. While there are no shortcuts to success, certain attitudes and actions can help. Here are my top 10 tips for doing business the Virgin way:
1. Follow your dreams.
You will live a much better life if you pursue your passions. People who work on the things that they love usually enjoy life more than everyone else does simply because they are chasing their dreams.
2. Do some good.
If you aren’t making a difference in other people’s lives, you shouldn’t be in business -- it’s that simple. Companies have a responsibility to make a difference in the world: They owe this to their community, their staff, their customers, everyone. The amazing part is that doing good is also good for business -- what are you waiting for?
